New puppy pictures

and behind the names of our puppies!

Hello friends! Today, I thought it would be fun to share with you all some new pictures of Brielle and Bourne’s puppies and a bit behind the scenes of how we name our puppies!

We have a letter of the alphabet for each litter and choose names that begin with that letter for each of the puppies. This is our “T” litter.

Of course, most of the puppies end up getting their names changed when they go home to their forever families, but we think they should have names while they’re with us, too! I mean, just calling them “green collar,” “yellow collar,” etc., is quite boring! And coming up with names is fun!

I’ll start with the girls!

Here is Tulip! Since the puppies were born in April, the time of year when tulips bloom, it seemed very fitting! I also just really like tulips (in fact, in case you didn’t know already, I’m also a historical fiction author, and my most recent book, which is set in the Netherlands during World War II, is called Trains and Tulips.)

Here is Taffy! She is very sweet, like taffy! Debbie (my mother; as you probably know, Back 40 Berners is a family affair) had a dog named Taffy when she was a child, which was one of the reasons she wanted to use the name.

Here is Treasure! Montana is called “The Treasure State,” hence why we wanted to name her Treasure!

And finally, here is Talia! We chose the name Talia for the meaning: “to blossom.” We’ve watched this little girl blossom and grow, and it seemed fitting!

Now, onto the boys!

Here is Tristan! Our family has been enjoying watching the show All Creatures Great & Small, which is where I got the name Tristan!

Here is Tamarack! Or Tricky-woo, if you ask some members of our family (it’s a running joke here!). In case you haven’t watched All Creatures Great & Small, Tricky, also called Tricky-woo, is the name of a dog in there. However, Tricky is a very tiny dog, a Pekingese, and some of us did not want to name a Berner after him. So, we decided on Tamarack, because we love the beautiful tamarack trees.

Here is Trek! We chose the name Trek because we love to hike or “trek” the mountains here in Montana!

Here is Togo! Named after the famous sled dog who helped save the inhabitants of Noem, Alaska, by delivering medicine back in the 1920s.

And finally, here is Tink! The name Tink comes from a book series our family has been enjoying listening to on audio, The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson.
